About Action Centred Leadership (ACL)
This course gives leaders a practical, day-to-day approach to managing people and getting work done. Based on John Adair's Action Centred Leadership model, it teaches you how to balance three things at once: completing tasks, building a strong team, and supporting each person on that team.
Over five days, you move from the basics of the ACL model into hands-on skills — planning and prioritising work, building trust within your team, coaching individuals, and applying all three areas together in real situations. Each day builds on the last, moving from theory into practice through case studies, group work, and action planning.
By the end of the course, you'll have a personal leadership plan you can apply straight away, along with practical tools for delegation, feedback, motivation, and decision-making under pressure.
Expected Outcomes
The course is structured to build your leadership skills step by step, following the ACL framework across five focus areas: the model itself, task achievement, team building, individual development, and putting it all together. By the end, you'll be able to:
- Apply the ACL model to balance task, team, and individual needs
- Set clear goals, priorities, and performance standards for your team
- Build trust, resolve conflict, and strengthen collaboration within your team
- Coach, mentor, and give effective feedback to individuals
- Delegate in a way that develops your people, not just offloads work
- Lead confidently through pressure and change
- Build a personal action plan to keep improving as a leader
