About Manufacturing Operational Excellence (OpEx)
This course gives manufacturing professionals a complete approach to operational excellence, combining Lean and Six Sigma methodologies with leadership, culture, and process innovation. It's built for a manufacturing environment facing real pressure — globalisation, digital disruption, supply chain volatility, and rising customer expectations — where efficiency alone is no longer enough.
You'll start with the foundations of operational excellence and the key concepts behind it, then move into Lean manufacturing principles and hands-on process optimisation. From there, the course covers Six Sigma methodology for improving quality and reliability, performance measurement using KPIs and data analytics, and finishing with how leadership and culture sustain excellence over the long term.
By the end, you'll be able to design and lead a full operational excellence strategy tailored to your own manufacturing organisation.
Expected Outcomes
The course is structured around five stages — from the foundations of operational excellence through to leadership and culture — so each skill connects to a real manufacturing challenge. By the end, you'll be able to:
- Understand the core principles of operational excellence in manufacturing
- Apply Lean tools to eliminate waste and optimise production processes
- Use Six Sigma methodology to reduce variation and improve quality
- Measure performance using KPIs, OEE, and data analytics
- Build a continuous improvement culture across manufacturing functions
- Develop a strategic roadmap for implementing operational excellence
- Lead cross-functional teams through excellence initiatives and change
Training Method
The course begins with the foundations of operational excellence in manufacturing, covering the key concepts and competitive drivers behind it. It then moves into Lean manufacturing, including waste elimination, value stream mapping, and a hands-on workshop building a Lean process improvement plan.
From there, you'll work through Six Sigma methodology and root cause analysis tools, followed by performance measurement using KPIs, OEE, and Industry 4.0 data analytics, including a workshop building your own performance dashboard. The course closes by focusing on leadership, culture, and change management needed to sustain excellence, culminating in a capstone case study designing a complete operational excellence strategy. Throughout, you'll work through expert-led discussions, practical workshops, and real-world simulations, so you leave with tools ready to apply directly on the shop floor.
